Pokémon healing items have expanded over each new generation, and each item can be vitally important for players taking on the games' challenges.

Preparing for battles in the Pokémon game series is done in many steps. Players will need to raise the levels of their Pokémon team to match or exceed the area or Gym Leader they are going to take on, they will need to ensure they have types to properly address strengths and weaknesses, and they will want to ensure they have purchased the needed HP healing and status recovery items from their local Poké Mart. The Pokémon series has introduced numerous ways for players to heal their parties while out on a route or during a battle, and some are more effective than others.

While certain Pokémon species possess healing moves like Rest or Recover, and recent games like Pokémon Sword and Shield have added camping and Curry to give players a quick healing option, having a good stock of healing items on hand is always a good idea. Players can use potions to recover their team after a particularly difficult match or ensure a win with the use of a Revive to restore a knocked-out partner near the end of a battle. These items also recover damaging status conditions like Poison, ensuring the Pokémon is fit for the next encounter.

Players will also want to refrain from selling healing items that are found while exploring. Certain items like Ethers can restore a Pokémon's move slots, or PP, but is costly to purchase and often isn't available in the early game outside of what is found on routes. Often these items sell for a small profit, but are more useful to a player in battle, making them worth holding on to. There are also healing items that are unique to certain Pokémon regions, and may only appear outside of those regions thanks to game events or special vendors in certain cities. For example, the Big Malasada is a healing item from Alola that heals all status conditions, while the Shalour Sable originates from Kalos with the same effects. These items can be a big benefit, and be worth picking up if the player finds a vendor while exploring.

Pokémon healing items like Potions and Revives slowly gain potency throughout the game's progression. While players may only have access to standard Potions in the first town's Poké Mart, these items will gradually expand and gain effectiveness after story achievements. However, the cost of more effective items will also increase, so players will want to stock up on Poké Dollars while battling trainers, or by selling rare items like Nuggets and Pearls, to ensure they can properly stock up before a long route or difficult Gym Leader battle. Here are the healing items available across the series' games:

• Potion - Restores 20 HP for a Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Super Potion - Restores 60 HP for a Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Hyper Potion - Restores 120 HP for a Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Max Potion - Fully recovers the HP of a Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Berry Juice - Restores 20 HP for a Pokémon. Available from Gold, Silver, and Crystal forward.
• Energy Powder - Restores 50 HP for a Pokémon from Gold, Silver, and Crystal to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and 60 HP from Sun and Moon forward.
•  Energy Root - Restores 200 HP for Pokémon generations from Gold, Silver, and Crystal to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and 120 HP from Sun and Moon forward.
• Fresh Water - Restores 30 HP for a Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Lemonade - Restores 70 HP for a Pokémon. In every game.
• MooMoo Milk - Restores 100 HP for a Pokémon. Available from Gold, Silver, and Crystal forward.
• Soda Pop - Restores 50 HP for a Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Sweet Heart - Restores 20 HP for a Pokémon. Available from Black and White forward.
• Revive - Recovers a Pokémon from fainting and restores half its HP. Available in every game.
• Revival Herb - Recovers a Pokémon from fainting and restores all its HP. Available from Gold, Silver, and Crystal forward.
• Max Revive - Recovers a Pokémon from fainting and restores all its HP. Available in every game.
• Rotom HP Restore - A Rotom power that restores the HP of a battling Pokémon. Available from Sun and Moon forward.
• Scared Ash - Recovers all fainted Pokémon on a team and restores them to maximum HP. Available from Gold, Silver, and Crystal forward.
• Full Restore - Heals all HP and Status conditions for one Pokémon. Available in every game.

• Ether - Restores the 10 PP of one Pokémon move. Available in every game.
• Elixer - Restores 10 PP for each move of one Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Max Ether - Restores all the PP for a single more of one Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Max Elixer - Restores all the PP of every move for one Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Roto PP Restore - A Rotom power that restores the PP of a battling Pokémon. Available from Sun and Moon forward.
• Antidote - Cures the Poison status for one Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Awakening - Cures the Asleep status for one Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Burn Heal - Cures the Burn status for one Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Ice Heal - Cures the Frozen status for one Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Paralyze Heal - Cures the Paralyzed status for one Pokémon. Available in every game.
• Full Heal - Cures any status for one Pokémon. Available in every game.

While the number of healing items in the Pokémon game series has greatly increased since Red, Blue, and Yellow, the variety of options isn't a setback. With the release of Sword and Shield, players now have a vast selection of ways to heal their party, and can even rely on healing items that fit a specific personal preference, like using only cookies to heal status effects or bottles of MooMoo Milk instead of Potions to heal HP. With each of these options, and a large number of berries also present in the Pokémon games, players can ensure their party is ready and healthy for any adventure or encounter they meet.
