Boris ‘wants to be in charge for another decade and outlast Margaret Thatcher’

‘Competitive’ Boris Johnson wants to beat Margaret Thatcher’s record of 11 years in power, sources say.

Former chief adviser Dominic Cummings previously said Mr Johnson would quit Downing Street because he would rather ‘make money and have fun’.

But according to a Cabinet member quoted by The Times, the opposite is true.

They reportedly said: ‘Boris will want to go on and on. The stuff Dom (Cummings) was saying about him going off into the sunset was nonsense.

‘He’s very competitive. He wants to go on for longer than Thatcher.’

Margaret Thatcher, the UK’s first female Prime Minister, was in office for 11 and a half years.

The Times said that Mr Johnson wanted to build a legacy and hopes his reforms to the NHS and social care – through a rise in National Insurance announced this week – will play a part in that.

He is said to be determined to address the ‘catastrophic’ economic mistakes of the past 40 years and wants to use Brexit to rectify inequalities across the country.

Mr Johnson is expected to use the next election in 2024 to promise progress on his levelling up agenda, which he believes will take 10 years.

The Times quoted Mr Johnson as saying, in an upcoming book by Financial Times journalist Sebastian Payne as saying: ‘I do think the risk is if we were to be stopped, if we [the Conservatives] were to be pushed out, the whole thing will slump back.

‘We will be back into half of the things of the European Union before we could say it.’

My Johnson became Prime Minister in 2019 – a widely known life-ambition of his, that he has been working on since becoming an MP 20 years ago.

He is supposedly trying to fix the economy to use that, along with Brexit, for re-election in 2024.
