Report: How many matches Lo Celso and Romero could miss after latest development
According to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, the Argentinian FA’s latest statement indicates Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero will not be ending their time with the national team after the game against Brazil was suspended.
In what was quite a surreal incident yesterday, ANVISA (Brazil’s national health surveillance agency) officials walked onto the pitch to stop Brazil’s World cup qualifier against Argentina.
The officials accused the Spurs pair, as well as Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia, of failing to disclose that they had been in the UK over the last 14 days, which would have required them to quarantine upon entering Brazil.
The match was suspended and it was revealed this morning that Tottenham are in the dark over what will happen next regarding Lo Celso and Romero.
Gold has now revealed that Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has agreed to allow Buendia and Martinez to miss out on Argentina’s clash against Bolivia on Thursday and fly back to the UK.
However, he explained that the Argentine FA have not stated that the Spurs duo will be ending their involvement with the national side.
Gold adds that if Scaloni does not release them until September 11, the two players would not be able to enter the country until at least September 21.
That could see them miss the Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Chelsea, as well as the Europa Conference League clash at Rennes and the Carabao Cup game at Wolves.
EDIT – The Argentine FA have since revealed that Lo Celso and Romero have been released from international duty and will not feature against Bolivia on Thursday.

Spurs will be furious if Argentina release the Villa pair without affording Lo Celso and Romero the same courtesy. While CONMEBOL and FIFA have to take the majority of the blame due to their poor scheduling, the Argentine FA have also seem to have behaved completely unprofessionally through this process.
