Furious Royal Mail customers left unable to send packages after major tech fail

FRUSTRATED Royal Mail customers have been left unable to post packages after the postal service’s Click & Drop website crashed.

Click & Drop, a service used by people regularly selling items through eBay, Amazon and Etsy, suffered an outage this morning.

Click & Drop allows self-employed Brits and people running small businesses to pay for their postage online before parcels are collected by Royal Mail.

It can be used by anyone, but is often used by customers sending out items they have sold online as it integrates with platforms like Amazon, eBay and Etsy.

The technology allows users to keep track of orders, give customers a choice of delivery services, print labels and receive shipping updates.

The service was down from around 9am this morning.

Frustrated customers hit out at Royal Mail following the tech outage, with some saying they have hundreds of orders stuck in limbo.

Bristol-based small business Classic Car LEDs said on Twitter: “200 plus orders to process and 4 hours with packing sitting idle.

“Quick enough to fine us if we slightly underweigh something, not willing to accept your systems do not add up weights correctly and try and overcharge so we need to manually correct many!”

Settle Down Books, an online bookshop based in North Yorkshire, wrote: “Click and Drop website is down, cannot print any orders Monday morning of all days ! How long till it’s fixed. Half of orders stuck in system, what a mess.”

The problem for users has been exacerbated as they have a build up of orders from over the weekend to process.

Motorcycle clothing firm Two Wheel Cool said: “So, unable to process our Sat/Sun/Mon orders via C&D, what option do we have?

“Was just beginning to like and trust C&D. Will have to revert to more expensive franking! Understand system errors, but had to find out cause via Google no notification from RM!!”

Cricklewood Coffee Roasters added: “This is bad. Thank you for the zero support.”

In a statement Royal Mail said access to the site has now been restored.

However, customers are still unable to “manifest” their items, which is the final piece of processing paperwork needed to complete the delivery.

Shipping rules – which automatically apply postage costs to different orders – have also been disabled.

The Sun has contacted Royal Mail for further comment.
