Reds drop game, series to Tigers
The Reds have now lost 5 of their last 6 series
The Reds, the owners of one of the easiest second half schedules in all of baseball, have have picked one of the worst times to play some of their worst baseball. Despite Casey Mize leaving after 3 perfect innings, and despite limiting the Tigers to only 6 hits on the afternoon, they still found a way to squeak out a 4-1 loss and drop another series to a team with a record below .500. This is the 6th time in the last 2 weeks that the Reds have scored 1 run or less. They just plain stink right now.
There’s not much else to recap about this game. What happened on the defensive side of things didn’t matter because, once again, the offense was lifeless. Luis Castillo was good until the 6th inning when he was bit by a couple hard luck hits and an error. 3 runs should be plenty for this team to come back from but the entire lineup has hit a slump at the same time. Anyway, they start a 3-game set in Chicago tomorrow. The Cubs have spent the last 2 months actively trying to lose, so hopefully the Reds can win a couple this week and get back on track. Despite this run, they still have a chance to hang on to the second wild card spot after today’s games. They aren’t out of it yet, but the very well could be soon if they don’t turn things around.
