Far Cry 6 PC Version Has Improved Ray Tracing & an HD Textures Pack
Ubisoft's latest Far Cry 6 trailer unveils what's under the hood in the PC version, outlining features that include ray tracing, FidelityFX Super Resolution, and ultra-wide screen support. Ubisoft Toronto leads production on the upcoming shooter, but the Ukraine-based Ubisoft Kyiv has taken charge of the PC iteration.
Announced during Ubisoft Forward in July 2020, Far Cry's newest open-world adventure takes place on the fictional island of Yara, an analogue for Cuba run by the tyrannical Antón Castillo. By most accounts, Far Cry 6 follows in the footsteps of its Ubisoft-led predecessors, presenting a gorgeous open-world replete with over-the-top action and an unsettling but charismatic main villain. Newer hardware allows the development teams to push the envelope in terms of the visuals and performance, though, almost guaranteeing an experience that should technically outshine previous entries.
The PC trailer for Far Cry 6 recently went live, with Ubisoft providing an overview of the features implemented by the crew in Kyiv. Collaborating with sister studios in Toronto and Montréal, Ubisoft Kyiv heavily invested resources into optimizing the first-person title on PC. While exploring Yara, PC players can expect uncapped frame rates, as well as realistic ray-traced reflections and shadows that significantly boost the visual quality. Support for AMD's Fidelity FX Super Resolution feature enabled a refined "balance between visuals and performance." Features such as ultra-wide support and a downloadable HD textures pack further evince Ubisoft's commitment to its PC audience. (Even if the game isn't launching on Steam.)
The above video implies high-end PCs will serve as the ideal way to play Far Cry 6 from a technical standpoint, especially since the PC version doesn't sound like a simple port job. Of course, players can test as much for themselves when the shooter releases in a few short weeks.
Like several other Ubisoft-published projects, Far Cry 6 has a Season Pass packed with post-launch plans. The Season Pass offers access to a "Blood Dragon" set of in-game items, Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon standalone, and, most importantly, three story-driven expansions. One expansion will centralize Far Cry 3 villain Vaas, while the remaining two revolve around Pagan Min and Joseph Seed of Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 5 fame, respectively.
Far Cry 6 launches for Google Stadia, PC via the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on October 7.
