Match Group CEO Shar Dubey is starting a fund for employees in the wake of Texas' new restrictive abortion legislation. The fund will help Match employees access necessary healthcare outside of the state.

The new law bans abortion access for most women and came into effect on midnight Wednesday after the US Supreme Court did not block it on Tuesday, Insider reported. Dubbed the "heart beat bill," the new law prohibits women in Texas from receiving an abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which typically occurs around six weeks, a time before many women realize they are pregnant.

"I am setting up a fund to ensure that if any of our Texas-based employees or a dependent find themselves impacted by this legislation and need to seek care outside of Texas, the fund will help cover the additional costs incurred," Dubey wrote in an email memo to Match's employees that was shared with Insider.

Match Group, which owns popular dating sites such as Tinder, Match.com, and Hinge, is based in Dallas. Dubey, a Texas resident who immigrated to the US from India over 25 years ago, explained in the memo how she is "shocked" to "live in a state where women's reproductive laws are more regressive than most of the world."

Match does not take political stands unless relevant to their business, Dubey wrote. However, she explained she personally felt the need to take action against the law.

"I'm not speaking about this as the CEO of a company," Dubey said. "I'm speaking about this personally, as a mother and a woman who has fervently cared about women's rights, including the very fundamental right of choice over her body."

The Supreme Court voted 5-4 to refuse to block the law. President Joe Biden also criticized the abortion law, saying the law blatantly violates the constitutional right established by Roe v. Wade, Insider reported.
