Pokémon Evolutions Trailer Teases Stories Set In 8 Regions Of The World
Pokémon Evolutions, the newest miniseries from the Pokémon universe, has just debuted its first trailer. The franchise, which was created by Satoshi Tajiri, is one of the most internationally successful Japanese properties in the world, encompassing video games, anime, manga, films, and much much more, including the live-action film Detective Pikachu and Netflix's upcoming live-action Pokémon series from Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson. While most of the anime series follow young trainer Ash Ketchum's travels with his Pokémon partner Pikachu and their friends, there have also been several spinoff miniseries throughout the years.
The first, Pokémon Origins, premiered on television in 2016 and explored the story of the original video game more faithfully. Pokémon Generations and Pokémon: Twilight Wings, which also told stories directly inspired by various Pokémon video games, were designed for the web and premiered on the Pokémon YouTube channel in 2016 and 2020. Now, Pokémon is gearing up for the impending release of the brand new web miniseries Pokémon Evolutions.
Today, the trailer for Pokémon Evolutions dropped on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. The miniseries will be telling "timeless stories from eight Pokémon regions," covering the lands explored in every generation of the game and television show from Kanto to Galar. The trailer doesn't betray many story details yet, but it certainly shows off a brand new look. With only eight episodes, Pokémon Evolutions has allowed the animators to create a much more cinematic, richly textured look for this show that highlights the epic, legendary quality of the stories being told. The trailer teases several deep dives into the rich lore and mythology of the Pokémon universe among the stories represented by the series, which will premiere its first episode online on September 9. From the looks of things, it will be bringing to life both the origin of the extraterrestrial dragon Pokémon Eternatus from the Sword & Shield games as well as some backstory on Team Flare from X & Y. Additional stories are teased with some beautiful concept art sketches and glimpses at familiar locales.
It is unknown if Pokémon Generations will be streamable on the Pokémon TV app announced for the Nintendo Switch last week, though the timing of these two announcements would seem perfectly aligned for that to be the case. However, as this is an online release, access to the show as it airs should be easy and painless. It hasn't been announced how long the episodes will be, but it's highly likely they will be the same length as previous Pokémon web miniseries, which ran at about 3 to 7 minutes per episode.
Pokémon Evolutions premieres online on September 9.
