Cavs sign Fall to non-guaranteed deal

The 7’5” center has spent his whole pro career with the Celtics.

Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Cleveland Cavaliers have signed center Tacko Fall to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal.

Fall, 25, is a 7’5” center who has spent his two professional seasons with the Boston Celtics. In 26 total games, he averaged 2.7 points and 2.6 rebounds. He also has spent some time in the G League, playing 29 games for the Maine Red Claws (Boston’s affiliate) in 2019-20, averaging 12.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game.

The key to this deal is that it’s non-guranteed, meaning that it’s a training camp deal for Fall. This would seem to mean that he’s going to complete for the third center spot in camp with Mfiondu Kabengele. Notably, Kabengele is also on a non-guaranteed deal for next season and neither player would likely see much time (barring injury) behind Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley at center.

It would also seem possible that Fall ends up on a two-way deal with the Cavs and splits time between the NBA and the G League with the Cleveland Charge. That, though, probably depends on what he looks like in camp and in preseason appearances.
