MOORHEAD, MN — Kane County Cougars outfielder Jeffrey Baez and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks reliever Luke Lind have been named the American Association’s Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 8, the league announced Monday.
Baez was sensational in his six games this past week for the Cougars, hitting an Association-best .708 with five home runs and 13 RBIs. He finished the week with a bang, hitting two home runs and driving in seven in the Cougars’ 17-10 win over Houston on Sunday, August 8.
Baez, 27, is making his Association debut in 2021. A native of Venezuela, he made his professional debut at the age of 17 with the Chicago Cubs organization. He’d stay in Chicago’s farm system until 2018, reaching Double-A Tennessee. He spent 2019 with Double-A Jackson in the Diamondbacks’ system.
Lind was dominant out of the bullpen this past week, helping the RedHawks solidify their playoff position in the North Division. The right-hander allowed just one hit over four appearances, striking out 13 without walking a batter in seven innings of work. He received two wins for his efforts, on August 3 and August 6.
Lind is no stranger to pitching in Fargo; he spent his college years at North Dakota State, tying a program record with 92 strikeouts his senior year in 2017. The Eden Prairie, Minnesota native signed with the Los Angeles Angels organization later that year. He made it as high as Class A Burlington in 2019. He’s making his Association debut with the RedHawks in 2021.
