I Know What You Did Last Summer Amazon Series Sets Premiere Date

Amazon's long-awaited I Know What You Did Last Summer slasher series finally has a projected release date, that being the fitting month of October. Adapted from the Lois Duncan novel of the same name, the show is said to be a modern spin on the original film released in 1997. Last year, Amazon gave the greenlight for the I Know What You Did Last Summer series, however there was limited information regarding a timeline. James Wan will serve as one of the show's producers, with Amazon Studios producing alongside Sony Pictures Television.

According to a an update from Bloody Disgusting, Amazon confirmed that the show will premiere this coming October, though no official day was reported. Sarah Goodman, the series showrunner, promised a dark and psychological premise full of blood and gore.

We have eight episodes to explore these characters who are not just running from a stalker, they are also having relationships and having issues with their families, and they are dealing with their f****** lives. There’s more than just the mystery of who’s after them. It’s very much a mystery of who they really are.

The late '90s and early 2000's franchise, which included the sequels I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, carved a space for itself within the realm of slashers in its generation. Aside from adhering to familiar horror tropes of that era, the original film's iconic roles played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prince Junior and Ryan Phillippe arguably set the bar for its success at the time. As for upcoming 2021 I Know What You Did Last Summer series' cast, it remains to be seen if they'll be able to hold candle. I Know What You Did Last Summer is one of those films that is celebrated as a product of its time; as such, fans of the original movies will be anxious to see if the contemporary spin ends up doing it proper justice.
