Pet Sematary Prequel Movie Casts Jackie Brown’s Pam Grier
The upcoming Pet Sematary prequel movie has cast Jackie Brown’s Pam Grier. The 2019 adaptation of Stephen King’s novel was met with middling reviews upon release, with critics condemning the film’s superficial scares. Despite this, the movie grossed $100 million globally on a $21 million budget, so Paramount is eager to progress with the property. Grier won the hearts of movie fans with her role in the Tarantino classic, where she portrayed a flight attendant who finds herself in a life-threatening crossroads.
According to Variety, the as-yet-untitled Pet Sematary prequel has added Grier to its cast. It is not clear what Grier’s role is, but she will be joined by Jackson White (Mrs. Fletcher), Forrest Goodluck (from Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Revenant), and The Mare of Easttown’s Jack Mulhern. Variety explains that the film is “an origin story to the Stephen King novel about a family that discovers a rather disturbing graveyard in the woods behind their home.”
The 2019 Pet Sematary saw father Louis Creed resurrecting his dead daughter with horrifying results. The story of the Creed family is completed by the end of the film, with most of the family dead (or undead). However, King fans will be excited to learn Paramount has more story to tell with this property. The development of this picture is more evidence that the Stephen King renaissance is going strong, with 18 film adaptations of the prolific author’s work in the pipeline. A Pet Sematary prequel is also a great way to get more subscribers to Paramount+ since the movie will be a streaming exclusive. There is clearly still interest in adaptations of King's work and even though 2019's Pet Sematary was poorly received, the book is still one of King's most recognized titles.
