Argentine President Alberto Fernandez authorized the introduction of a third gender in the country. The Argentine leader believes that gender identity and sexual orientation should not be of concern to the state.
“What does it matter for the state, a man in front of it or a woman? It is important that citizens study or work, get vaccinated, pay taxes, and not their sexual orientation”, – Fernandez said on July 21.
Consequently, with the entry into force of the new legislative norm, in Argentine passports, in addition to the female and male, the third gender will also be indicated – if someone decides to choose it. It will be designated by the letter X.
Note that in 2002 Buenos Aires became the first city in Latin America to legalize civil unions for same-sex and opposite-sex couples. Since 2010, same-sex marriage has been allowed in the country.
