Season 15 of Destiny 2 is on the horizon, and several changes for the Vanguard Playlist are expected to arrive. This is everything known so far.
Bungie has been working towards a large overhaul to the Destiny 2 Vanguard Playlist in-game ranking system, starting with playlist changes that were made in Season 13 to the Drifter and Shaxx reward systems made for Crucible and Gambit. More changes of similar nature are coming to the Vanguard playlist in Season 14, the playlist that currently allows players to complete Strikes, Battlegrounds, Nightfalls, and Grandmaster Nightfalls - and earn Vanguard Tokens. Vanguard Tokens allow players to increase their reputation rank with Zavala, and in return, they can be awarded a random Legendary piece of gear with random stats. Currently, the Vanguard operations in the playlist are a bit separated from one another. Battleground missions are in the playlist, for example, but they don't yield the same rewards as Strikes.
Gambit and Crucible playlists have a linear ranking system, allowing players to earn Valor and Infamy in exchange for designated rewards. Depending on the level that players reach in these playlists' ranks, these rewards can be key crafting items and exotics like Enhancement Cores, Enhancement Prisms, Exotic Engrams, Upgrade Modules, Ascendant Shards. The Vanguard playlist is the only playlist that doesn't follow this cycle and instead rewards players in a similar fashion to the arms dealer, Banshee-44. This will change in Season 15 of Destiny 2, as Bungie plans to have the Vanguard Playlist's ranking system like that of Crucible and Gambit.
Season 15 of Destiny 2 will bring the linear reward and ranking system of Shaxx and Drifter to Zavala. Following suit, all unused Vanguard Tokens will be dismantled at the beginning of Season 15. Players have until the end of Season 14 to use their tokens, and if the Vanguard Tokens aren't used they'll be gone for good. In addition to earning the key crafting items, powerful rewards, like weapons and armor, will be earned every third rank. An Ascendant Shard will be awarded the first time players reset their Vanguard rank, changing the rewards for the ranks thereafter. Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit playlists will all have a similar ranking progression for their respective playlists, instead of a drastic difference in points needed to rank up each.
Additionally, players will be able to earn their Vanguard reputation through Strikes, Nightfalls, and Battlegrounds. The higher difficulty Nightfalls will also award more points towards the Vanguard rank as well. New to Destiny 2 will be Activity Streaks and Reputation Bonuses, to Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit playlists. The longer players remain in Vanguard activities, be it from the playlist or a direct launch, the larger the streak bonus is. Players can still roam freely to the H.E.L.M. or Tower to clear out their reward inventories without breaking the streak, but launch a different form of activity will reset the streak entirely. Win streak bonuses in both Gambit and Crucible will be replaced by the activity streak bonus as well.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, and Google Stadia platforms.
