Sanchez-Quintanar Names Georgi Rumenov Assistant Coach
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Women’s tennis head coach Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar has named former UCF men’s tennis assistant, Georgi Rumenov, as her new assistant coach.
“I would like to thank Georgi for joining me in this new project,” Sanchez-Quintanar said. “Georgi is one of the best assistant coaches in the country. He played a key role in helping FIU women’s tennis to reach their highest ranking in the history of the program and won their first conference title. During the last two years, he has helped Coach John Roddick to take the UCF Men’s Team to their first ever top 10 in the nation and first conference title. I couldn’t be more thankful that he has chosen to help me keep building the women’s tennis program here in Fayetteville. I’ve known Georgi since we were juniors and I have always admired his work ethic, tenacity, professionalism and his knowledge about tennis. He has the best qualities you can find in a human being, and I can’t wait for him to join the Razorback family to do great things together.”
Rumenov had a successful career as a player before turning to coaching. He played on the ATP Professional tennis tour and earned a career high ranking of 390 in singles and 374 in doubles. He played at the professional level for over 10 years. Rumenov claimed three championships and made it to two other finals in 2016 as he won the Portugal F5 singles and doubles title and the Portugal F6 and F9 singles crowns.
Rumenov was a four-year letter winner at Armstrong State University (Savannah, Georgia), where he helped ASU to back-to-back NCAA Division II National Championship appearances (2012, 2013), winning the 2012 title. Named team captain in 2013, Rumenov was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year, an All-American and the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year twice over. He graduated from Armstrong State in 2014, earning a degree in general economics.
Prior to his time at ASU, Rumenov claimed six doubles titles on the ATP Tour (2009, 2010), while winning the 2005 Orange Bowl Championship.
