LAS VEGAS – Mateusz Gamrot is ready to show what he’s about against a notable name in Jeremy Stephens at UFC on ESPN 26.
Gamrot (18-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) meets Stephens (28-18 MMA, 15-17 UFC) in Saturday’s featured lightweight bout on the ESPN-televised card at the UFC Apex, and in just his third octagon appearance, he’s matched up with one of the promotion’s longest-tenured athletes.
The Polish fighter is not ignorant to what that can mean for his career growth, and he plans on taking out “Lil’ Heathen” and then going after a top 15 or top 20 name at 155 pounds.
“I work very hard all my life and I get an amazing opportunity to fight with him,” Gamrot told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN 26 media day. “I’m so happy. Jeremy is a very big name in the USA and a UFC legend. Jeremy has a lot of experience here. He’s a very tough guy. I think it’s a new level. Everybody in the USA will know who I am.”
