Nancy Pelosi praised the late U.S. Congressman John Lewis on Thursday for leading a “beautiful and saintly life” even though he supported the killing of unborn babies in abortions, including partial-birth abortions.
Lewis, a celebrated civil rights advocate, represented Georgia in Congress for many years. He died in 2020.
CNS News reports Pelosi honored the former congressman ahead of a planned delegation to San Diego on July 17 for the christening of the U.S. Navy Ship John Lewis.
“As House Speaker, I am deeply honored to lead this Congressional delegation of many friends of our beloved late Congressman John Lewis to honor his beautiful and saintly life,” she said in a statement.
“John Lewis was a warrior for freedom and, as a titan of the civil rights movement, his courage and goodness helped transform our nation,” Pelosi continued. “In the halls of the Capitol, he was fearless in his pursuit of a more perfect union, whether fighting to defend voting rights, end anti-LGBTQ discrimination or respect the dignity and worth of every person.”
But neither Lewis nor Pelosi respect the dignity and worth of unborn babies, who are unique, living, irreplaceable human beings from the moment of conception. Every year, nearly 1 million unborn babies are killed in elective abortions in the U.S.

Before leaving Congress, Lewis had a 100 percent pro-abortion voting record from NARAL Pro-Choice America, according to CNS News.
Lewis voted against the partial-birth abortion ban, federal legislation that the U.S. Supreme Court upheld as constitutional. He also voted against bans on taxpayer funding for elective abortions and against legislation to provide justice for unborn babies who are victims of crimes.
Similarly, Pelosi has a radical pro-abortion record. As leader of the U.S. House, right now she is pushing to end the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for the killing of unborn babies in abortions. The amendment is credited with saving more than 2.4 million babies’ lives, and polls show strong public support for it.
Pelosi says she is a devout Catholic, but many of her actions contradict her faith. Once, she even called killing viable, late-term unborn babies in abortions “sacred ground.”
