Earlier today, Manchester United confirmed that promising youngster Tahith Chong has joined Birmingham for the 2020-21 season. Having won the league with Club Brugge last season, the winger is looking to help the Championship team improve on their 18th placed finish.
I’m excited to get started. Excited to get to know my new teammates and get to know everyone at the Club. I spoke to the manager here and heard about the plans the club has for this season and for me as well which sounded very exciting to me. He spoke to me about some improvement points which was good to hear. I’m looking forward to working with him. I want to come here and become a better player and develop. To hear his improvement points, which I agreed with, was really good to hear.
It’s my first loan in the Championship so I’m really looking forward to getting to know the Championship and to see what it brings. I’m a player who likes to get at players, like to dribble and beat players. I’m fast and I’ll try to bring that to the team. I’m looking forward to the season and to meet all the fans. I think I’m even more excited than they are!
Reflecting on his experience on loan with Werder Bremen and Club Brugge last season, Chong discussed why those moves had been good for his development.
From both it was a learning experience, in Bundesliga, one of the best leagues in Europe, I learnt loads of stuff there. With Brugge, with coming champions, with all the ups and downs, it was a very good experience for me.
The highlight of Chong’s career with United so far was coming off the bench as United came back from losing 2-0 in the home leg in the Champions League against PSG to win 3-1 in Paris.
Until this day, when someone asks me about it, it was a great feeling, indescribable. It’s the stuff you dream about as a kid watching on TV, and now you’re part of it.
