How Genshin Impact 2.0 Is Changing 5-Star Weapon Wishes
Genshin Impact, the action-RPG from Chinese developer miHoYo, is receiving its big 2.0 update on July 21, and when it arrives it will be bringing some significant changes to the free-to-play gacha game. For many, it's the gacha element that turns players on or off from Genshin Impact. Playing the game may be fun and its world fascinating to explore, but paying real money to get a specific new character or weapon, only to continue receiving repeat characters or weapons that have already been acquired previously, can be frustrating. That's where a new Weapon Wish mechanic coming in Version 2.0 will come in.
Alongside Genshin Impact's new Inazuma region, cross-save support, and new characters, players will soon have more control over their Weapon Wishes. This is a big quality-of-life feature that should go a long way toward players not feeling like they've wasted their Wishes. It's called Epitomized Path, and it is a major step for Genshin Impact's gacha elements.
With the new Epitomized Path system, players will actually be able to start planning toward a particular 5-star promotional weapon. Once a specific weapon has been chosen, any time a player earns a 5-star weapon in Genshin Impact that is not the one selected as part of the Epitomized Path, players will receive one Fate Point. Once players reach two Fate Points, those can then be exchanged for the chosen Epitomized Path promotional weapon.
There are a few caveats, however. While players can choose to change the Epitomized Path weapon they have selected, doing so will erase any Fate Points accumulated up to that point, so they will need to make up their minds on which weapon to go for beforehand. In addition, Fate Points are erased at the end of each Epitome Invocation cycle, meaning players won't be able to store up points and wait for the next batch of promotional weapons to appear. While it's not without restrictions, overall, Genshin Impact's new Epitomized Path system is a great step forward. It's just one of the many changes coming in the Version 2.0 update, which will also be adding the new Inazuma region, as well as new confirmed characters like Ayaka, Kokomi, story quests, events, and more. Genshin Impact Version 2.0 is set to be the game's biggest update yet, and with features like Epitomized Path, it's certain to be one of its most well-received as well.
