Kate makes it out of self-isolation in time for Wimbledon finals

The Duchess of Cambridge is being released from quarantine just in time to watch the Wimbledon finals in London.

Kate has been self-isolating since coming into contact with someone who later tested positive for Covid last week.

She’s was informed of her potential exposure to the virus during her last visit to the tennis championships on Friday, July 2.

Now Kensington Palace has said she’ll be present for the finals weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

Kate is the Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and will be joined by her husband, Prince William, on Saturday for the ladies’ singles final between Ash Barty and Karolína Plíšková.

But she’ll be alone on Sunday for the men’s final because William is going to be at Wembley for the Euro 2020 match between England and Italy and the two events could clash.

Current rules state someone must quarantine for 10 days if they are in contact with a person with the virus for enough time that they may have become infected themselves.

Strict regulations mean the person isn’t allowed to leave their house except in an emergency and can’t have people over to visit.

Shopping and all other tasks that might require leaving the house should be done online or via support networks.

Saturday’s match comes nine days after Kate was told to isolate but rules state the quarantine period starts from the initial point of contact.

This suggests Kate came close to a Covid-positive person last Tuesday or Wednesday, if the ten day period ends before the weekend.

Kate attended England’s match against Germany at Wembley on the Tuesday with William and son George but her family has not been isolating, suggesting the contact came when she was not with them.

It’s thought that the duchess has had both doses of a Covid vaccine and has been testing negative for the virus during her time in quarantine.

She was due to join William for two events later on Friday to celebrate the 73rd birthday of the NHS but the prince ended up going on his own.

Speaking at the time, a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said: ‘Last week the Duchess of Cambridge came into contact with someone who has subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.

‘Her Royal Highness is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home.’
