The Lakers again plan to field a team in the four-team California Classic Summer League event hosted by the Sacramento Kings early next month.
The Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat will join the Kings and Lakers for the two-day event on Aug. 3-4 at the Golden 1 Center. Both days will feature a doubleheader with games scheduled for 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Lakers will face the Heat before the Kings play the Warriors on Aug. 3. The Warriors will face the Heat before the Kings square off with the Lakers on Aug. 4.
In 2018 and 2019, the tournament was three days long, with all four teams playing each other once. Last year’s event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Presuming the Lakers keep their first-round pick (No. 22) in the July 29 NBA Draft, this could be the first time that player suits up for them. Summer league rosters are typically made up of recent draft picks, second-year players and other young players competing to earn spots on NBA or G League rosters.
Following the California Classic, the Lakers will head to Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League. The schedule for that league-wide event hasn’t been released yet, but games will begin Aug. 8 and conclude on Aug. 17. The rosters and coaching staffs for both tournaments will be announced after the draft.
The general public will be able to purchase two-day passes for the California Classic beginning Monday (July 12) and single-day passes beginning on July 20 at kings.com/caclassic.
