VSR Lamborghinis Take A Second 1-2 Of 2021 In Race 2
Michele Beretta and Frederick Schandorff took their second win of the season, with a clear victory in Race 2 at Spa, while Vincenzo Sospiri Racing brought home its second 1-2, with local hero Baptiste Moulin and Yuki Nemoto taking second.
The green Lambos beat the Lechner Racing Porsche of Al Faisal Al Zubair-Andy Soucek, winners yesterday, who now lead the standings with one point over Beretta-Schandorff.
In Pro-Am, Patryk Krupinski-Christian Klien (JP Motorsport McLaren) also took their second win of the season, with the podium completed by Shaun Balfe-Adam Carroll (Balfe Motorsport Audi) and Jens Moller-Marcus Paverud (Reno Honda), with class leaders Iribe-Millroy (Inception McLaren) finishing fourth.
Jens Liebhauser-Florian Scholze (AKM Mercedes) scored their third Am win of the year.
At the start, on a cooler day at Spa, Adam Carroll kept the advantage of his second pole of the year, ahead of Spinelli, seriously challenged by Foley, then Beretta, Nemoto, Moller, Al Zubair and Krupinski.
The two leaders ran closely together in the initial laps, while Foley conceded a slight gap but remained ahead of the two VSR Lambos and Al Zubair, who has passed Moller, who would get a 3-second penalty for track limits. Liebhauser led in Am ahead of Cipriani.
Spinelli posed more and more of a threat, but would not manage to get through, up to the driver change, with the window opening on lap 13. After all stops, Schandorff was in the lead with a 1’-second gap on his teammate Moulin, followed closely by Dinan, then Balfe, Moiseev, Soucek, Klien, Paverud and Scholze, leading in Am. Shortly after, Soucek and Klien passed Balfe and Moiseev, while Tweraser suffered a spin.
On lap 21, Dinan suffered a puncture, luckily not far from the pits, but the third spot was lost.
The car would finish 10th. There were no changes at the top, with Schandorff and Moulin ensuring a second 1-2 for VSR, with Al Zubair in third, ahead of Klien, Balfe and Paverud, the top three in Pro-Am.
