Bachelorette: Katie Opens Up on the Awkwardness of Kissing on Camera
Katie Thurston is excited to relive her journey on The Bachelorette but does feel awkward watching her kissing scenes back. After she was eliminated from Matt James' season of The Bachelor, viewers were hopeful that the 30-year-old would be named the lead of the spin-off series. She was announced as The Bachelorette alongside Michelle Young, whose season will air sometime in the fall, at the end of Matt's After The Final Rose special. With Katie's season set to air in less than a week, viewers are excited to watch her fall in love.
The reality star was introduced to Bachelor Nation when she stepped out of the limo on night one of Matt's season. Viewers will never forget her entrance as she presented Matt with a vibrator. He immediately burst into laughter, leaving a lasting first impression. However, Katie and Matt were not able to get past the friend zone, and he sent her home halfway through the season following their first one-on-one date. Katie, who admitted she struggles with anxiety, may have been disappointed at first, but she was later offered the chance to find her forever love.
During an exclusive sit-down with People, the banking manager admitted it was strange to watch herself kissing her suitors on national television. "Seeing the promos, I am making out with a lot of guys!" Katie said with a laugh. "You never really see yourself kissing anyone. So it's like, 'Oh boy.'" Physical chemistry is an important part of getting to know someone, and Katie made sure she had that with her contestants before committing to anyone. "Time is short," she revealed. "And you can't be okay with me possibly getting engaged in two months but not kissing on the first date. I've got to use my time wisely!"
She was even direct when it came to talking about the infamous fantasy suites. "We're all adults," she said, noting, "I have sex! It's an important part of the relationship in terms of the connection. But it is also our time to talk about important topics or any lingering conversations." Lucky for Katie, there was not a shortage of eligible bachelors either. Every guy who walked out of that limo was handsome to Katie. "I don't have a type, so every man that came in I was like, 'Yes, yes and yes!' [...] that's what made it exciting and hard at the same time," she added. Many occurrences took place that the Washington native could have never predicted, however, she embraced the experience and realized everything happens for a reason.
Katie may feel awkward watching herself kiss on national television, but she knows it was a crucial part in getting to know the men on her season. They have limited time together and Katie is using her time wisely. While it may be awkward for Katie to watch back, Bachelor Nation is excited for the new season of The Bachelorette to premiere on Monday, June 7.
