Man takes smirking selfie as he’s spared jail for punching a pregnant woman
A ‘cocky’ thug took a grinning selfie outside court after he was spared jail for punching a pregnant woman at a party.
Nathan Buckley, 27, was spotted taking the picture after he was found guilty of the attack in Bolton on December 22, 2018.
The mum suffered facial injuries including a wound, a fractured cheekbone and a scratched cornea as he chucked lemonade in her face and hit her.
In a victim impact statement, the party host said her Christmas had been ruined by the ‘devastating’ assault as she didn’t want her child or family to see her injuries.
He had earlier been ‘rude’ to the victim who was eight weeks pregnant at the time of the event, Bolton Crown Court heard.
Buckley, who has a criminal record for previous assaults, was given community service after pleading guilty to unlawful wounding.
Judge Graeme Smith said he had given him a suspended prison sentence as he had turned his life around and stayed out of trouble.
Buckley had previously taken large amounts of cocaine and drank alcohol to ‘mask his mental health issues’, the court heard.
He had a ‘wake-up call’ when he got arrested, giving up drugs, getting a new job and fixing his relationships with his relatives.
Buckley was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
He must do 100 hours of unpaid work and participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities along with a thinking skills programme.
