Finance expert says Spurs fans should be sceptical of Levy promises
Football finance expert, Keiran Maguire, believes that Daniel Levy is simply telling Tottenham fans what they want to hear by promising to put the club’s focus back on improving the first team.
The relationship between Tottenham’s ownership and the fan base has seemingly been irreversibly damaged by the European Super League debacle.
In a letter to the fans, Levy has unequivocally apologised for the club’s actions and reiterated his commitment to return to “key priorities and what’s truly in our DNA.”
The Spurs chairman promised to bring back “attacking and entertaining” football back to N17.
One of the ways he seemingly wants to achieve that is by bringing Mauricio Pochettino back to Spurs, with reports indicating that the Argentine remains the North Londoners’ number one target.
However, Maguire believes that the moves made by Levy are simply an attempt to win back the fans and insisted that the Tottenham faithful should not be swayed unless there is significant investment into the first-team squad this summer.
He told Football Insider: “This is a classic case of talk is cheap.
“Until Spurs fans see genuine and sustained investment on the pitch, they will be very cautious in terms of believing in Daniel Levy at this moment in time.
“Of course, he would say that, wouldn’t he? No club owner is going to say: ‘We’re going to park the bus.’
“The Super League has just absolutely destroyed the bonds of trust between the fans and the people running the club at Tottenham.”

I personally view it as a good sign that Levy is willing to admit that he made a mistake by sacking Pochettino, paying big money to bring the Argentine back to the club.
The fact that the Spurs chairman is not settling for a Ten Hag or Potter and is going after the likes of Poch and Conte suggests that he is determined to hold on to Kane and back the new manager in the transfer window.
