SUSSEX COUNTY SETS OR TIES FOUR FRANCHISE RECORDS IN WIN VS NEW JERSEY
If you missed any of Tuesday’s games, here is a recap of the three games that took place:
The New York Boulders beat the Tri-City ValleyCats 7-2 at Palisades Credit Union Park. Lefthander Dan Wirchansky pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up just three hits, and striking out twelve—tying the franchise record last held by Justin Brantley in 2018 against Trois-Rivières in the Can-Am League. The Boulders started the scoring right away in the first, with a two-run single by Kevonte Mitchell. They stretched the lead to 3-0 in the sixth with an RBI single from Ray Hernandez. Then Zach Kirtley drove in four with a grand slam in the seventh inning to open the game up to a 7-0 Boulders lead. The ValleyCats scored two on a two-run home run in the ninth to make the final score 7-2.
In Joliet, the Slammers blanked the Schaumburg Boomers 2-0. The only runs came on a two-run homer from Brian Parreira in the bottom of the sixth inning. While the Boomers came close, stranding seven in scoring position throughout the game, they could not push any runs across. Kipp Rollings earned the win and notched four strikeouts in his 2.2 innings of work, while Ryan Middendorf threw seven strong innings in the loss for the Boomers.
The Sussex County Miners beat the New Jersey Jackals 17-7, and set or tied four team records. Trey Hair led the offensive attack with three home runs—becoming the first time a player has hit that many in Miners history, and tying a Frontier League Record for most home runs in a game. The last player to hit three in a game was Paul Kronenfeld of the River City Rascals in in 2018. Hair also had seven RBI in the game, which breaks the team record of 6 in a game set by Daniel Mateo in 2018. Other Miners also had big nights, including Nilo Rijo (4 for 6 with a triple and two runs scored), Daniel Herrera (4 for 6 with a HR and 3 RBI), and Cito Culver (3 hits), as Sussex County set a franchise record with 21 hits in the game. Tyler Luneke provided 3 1/3 innings of pitching relief and got the win.
The opening game of the series between the Lake Erie Crushers and the Evansville Otters was postponed due to weather, and will be a part of a doubleheader Thursday starting at 5:05 p.m.
The opening contest between Équipe Québec and the Southern Illinois Miners was also postponed and will be a part of a doubleheader at the same time Thursday.
