Jacob DeGrom Placed On Injured List, Sean Reid-Foley Recalled

As expected, the New York Mets have placed Jacob deGrom on the 10-day injured list, with what the team is calling right side tightness.

This move is being made retroactive to yesterday, May 10, so if all goes as planned deGrom could potentially return to the team on May 21, when they open up a three-game set with the Miami Marlins.

DeGrom, of course, left his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon with head athletic trainer Brian Chicklo after five innings of one run ball.

After struggling and walking three in the fifth, deGrom returned to the mound to pitch the sixth, but after just two warmup pitches Chicklo came to mound with manager Luis Rojas, and they decided the righty’s day was done and he was headed for an MRI.

Thankfully for the Mets those MRI results came back clean on Monday afternoon, showing no structural damage, though the team decided to pay it safe this time around and give deGrom the 10 days to rest and heal up and get his mechanics right.

In a corresponding roster move, the team has recalled right-hander Sean Reid-Foley from Triple-A Syracuse. SRF was one of the three pitchers acquired by the Mets in the Steven Matz trade with the Toronto Blue Jays.

In a very small sample size, SRF has really impressed out of the Mets’ bullpen. In his two outings with the big league club, Reid-Foley tossed five scoreless innings, allowed just two hits, and struck out seven.

SRF is an arm that could help provide some length to this Mets bullpen if need be. He should be ready to go, as he last pitched for Syracuse on May 8, when he threw a pair of scoreless innings and struck out three.
