Glenn Hoddle tips three managers to be good for Spurs – Including Steven Gerrard

Glenn Hoddle believes that Steven Gerrard must be among the candidates being considered by the Tottenham hierarchy as the club continue their search for a manager. 

More than 20 coaches across Europe have been linked with the Tottenham job since Jose Mourinho was sacked three weeks ago. 

If some sources are to be believed, despite ruling himself out of contention for the role, Brendan Rodgers still remains Spurs’ number one target. 

Graham Potter has also been quite heavily linked with the role, with the Brighton boss said to be the preferred choice of some players in the Tottenham squad.

It has been reported that the Spurs hierarchy are in no hurry to confirm an appointment and are only likely to do so at the end of the season. 

Hoddle believes that Gerrard, who guided Rangers to their first Scottish title in a decade, could be tempted to take over at Spurs, with the Liverpool job not looking likely to open up anytime soon.

The legendry Tottenham midfielder told BT Sport (broadcast on 8/5; 11:55): “Brendan Rodgers would do a great job, but why would he leave Leicester at the moment?

“I think Graham Potter is one that with a bigger club, a different group of players, possibly would be good.

“Steven Gerrard, I’ll put his name in there. I don’t know if Steven can wait for Klopp to start hitting the ropes in a few years time to go to Liverpool. It doesn’t work like that sometimes.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think the step-up from Rangers to Spurs would be too big a one for Gerrard to make. While he will certainly command respect from the dressing room, he might find himself tactically outclassed by some coaches in the Premier League. If we decide to go in the direction of appointing a young, up and coming coach, I would rather see Potter get the job.
