What time is the Queen’s speech to Parliament and how to watch it?

The Queen shall deliver a speech today that will set out the Government’s agenda for the next year.

Her Majesty will be delivering the speech from the throne in the House of Lords, with Covid restrictions in place for those attending.

It will also be the first speech given by the Queen publicly since Prince Philip’s death last month, although she did recently join a video call with members of the Royal Life Saving Society.

The speech will take place today, May 11, and is expected to be delivered between 11:30am and 12:30pm.

You can catch the Queen’s speech live on both BBC News and Sky News.

You can either watch on TV, or head to BBC iPlayer to watch BBC News, or Sky News via their YouTube channel.

What can we expect from the Queen’s speech?

It is has been reported that there will be more than 25 separate bills and pieces of legislature announced today.

The controversial Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, is set to be reintroduced, giving police in England and Wales greater power to shut down protests.

Planned changes to the structure of the NHS across England is also expected to be among the annoucements.

Plans to demand photo ID at polling stations is also expected to announced, as a means of tackling fraud.

Announcements concerning the Government’s environmental agenda are also expected, with the Cop26 climate change summit set to go ahead in Glasgow at the end of the year.

The Fixed Term Parliaments Act of 2011 is expected to be axed, giving the PM power to call early general elections.

A Sovereign Borders Bill, designed to address the asylum system is also likely.

The speech is addressing a housing planning bill, targeting home ownership in the Midlands and the North, is anticiapted.

Other expected announcements include an animal sentience bill, as well as a ban on conversion therapy, a policy that Boris Johnson has reportedly made a personal priority.
