‘Momentum’ – Ryan Mason argues that Kane was onside for VAR goal
Ryan Mason has argued that he thinks Harry Kane was onside for his disallowed goal against Leeds United this afternoon in the early Saturday kick-off.
Tottenham fell behind to a Stuart Dallas opener after Serge Aurier allowed a cross to come in from the right and both Dier and Reguilon failed to clear.
In fact, the latter turned the ball towards his own goal, forcing a reactionary save out of Hugo Lloris before Dallas slammed home the rebound.
Spurs hit back before long after Dele Alli threaded Heung-min Son through on goal for a cool finish to make it 1-1.
Dele then looked to have provided another assist for Harry Kane, who dinked the keeper to put Spurs ahead. However, VAR then disallowed the goal for just about as narrow an offside as you will ever see, to the point that the lines looked to be on top of each other.
Mason claimed that he thought it was onside and the replays have not changed his mind.
On the VAR call, he said (Alasdair Gold): “Of course [it could have changed the game]. Goals change games. I thought it was onside on the touchline and I’ve seen it 3-4 times and my feeling hasn’t changed. Momentum is important in a football game.”
