Woman launches GoFundMe campaign to buy books for children supported by Dartford, Slade Green and Bexley food banks
A mum-of-two hopes to raise £1,000 to buy books and activity packs for under-privileged children.
As an Usborne Publishing independent organiser and ex-primary school teacher, Dartford resident Fiona Coyne is passionate about promoting childhood literacy.
Fiona, who lives in Bexley Park, will use the funds to provide families supported by the Dartford, Slade Green and Bexley food banks with literature of their own.
The 35-year-old said: "Reading plays such a significant part in a child's future academic attainment and success.
"It also has huge benefits on a child's mental health, their imagination and emotional development.
"My children are extremely privileged to be growing up in a house surrounded by beautiful books, but I know there are so many children that don't have access to the books they need to support their learning and reading for pleasure.
"The closure of local libraries and schools throughout the pandemic, and the need to quarantine books provided by schools, has led to a lot of children suffering over the past year due to a lack of available books."
Usborne Books at Home, a branch of the popular children's publisher, will donate £340 worth of books to Fiona's total.
