Aaron Rodgers for Derek Carr? Raiders shouldn’t think twice

This isn’t complicated. And it let’s face it, there’s no basis in fact as far as it being true.

But if Aaron Rodgers truly would consider playing for the Raiders, you make the deal. If Green Bay wants Derek Carr, perfect. If they don’t, you trade him somewhere else. You worry about the cap implications with Rodgers probably wanting a lot more cash later.

From unimpeachable source: As of last night, Aaron Rodgers’ wish list was 49ers, Broncos, Raiders (not necessarily in that order). He wanted Packers to take the 49ers’ offer. Next move by Rodgers is TBD.

Carr is a good quarterback, somewhere near the top 10. Rodgers is a great quarterback, headed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame and on anybody’s list as No. 1 or No. 2.

Carr has learned to be more mobile and expand his game. Rodgers does some of his best work breaking out of the pocket and is equally deadline as a dropback passer.

The reality is this story is likely just a draft day sidelight to pass the time until selections begin at 5 p.m.

Would Rodgers really want to play with the Raiders in the same season they dealt two of their best offensive linemen in Rodney Hudson and Gabe Jackson? Would the Packers want players such as Darren Waller and more to make the trade?

I fully expect Derek Carr to be the Raiders quarterback in 2021. But if you’ve got a chance to get Rodgers and you’re convinced he’s not going to arrive giving orders about personnel or missing practice to host Jeopardy, you pull the trigger.

And that’s no disrespect to Carr. If it takes a reigning Most Valuable Player to move him aside, that’s a compliment, not a criticism.
