Waiting to awaken: a ghost walk around Larnaca’s Phinikoudes
Despite the present Covid-related travel restrictions, the beautiful natural and urban areas of Cyprus are still accessible to us through the lenses of local creators.
The floating camera shot is one of the most profound in the language of film and cinema – it has the power simultaneously to put you ‘into’ a movie, but… once there, the strangeness of the displacement takes on an almost dreamlike quality.
In this 4K video by wedding photographer and videographer George Avgousti, we take a walk along Larnaca’s Phinikoudes’ area, on a day without sunshine, and with the absence of crowds, due to Covid-19 restrictions, starkly on display.
Yet, once we have surrendered to this strange, floating experience, we can pick up details of the ordinarily-buzzing area that we may have missed: the truly wide expanse of the empty beach sands, the strange sci-fi-like sculptures on roadside display, the insect-like cluster of ship masts in the lonely Larnaca marina…
This is Phinikoudes as you have never seen it.
