South spots are go

Hello Friends,

Overcast start to Saturday with waves just starting to show at south magnets. Sets were very infrequent, so expect long waits and equally long lines. Wave faces were in the chest to shoulder high range – and could be getting bigger as the day goes along.

PEP 11 Paddle out is on by the way! So come along at 1100 at Mona Vale basin to show your opposition to gas drilling rigs off our coast. More details here

As of 0630, the breeze was still coming from the west at about 4 kts, while out at sea, the Waverider buoys were seeing 1.4 metres of 15-second straight south swell (176°). Tide was coming off the 0540 low as it headed to the modest 1.28 m high at 1135. There was a 40% chance of a light shower, although the radar was showing all the precipitation up near Newcastle. We should see a high of 22C along the beaches.

I counted 60 people in the water at Northy. Looks like everyone from the contest is having a paddle.

Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure is building across southern New South Wales, while a trough lingers over northeastern parts. This trough is expected to move offshore of the North Coast during the day today and move quickly east, making way for the making way for the high to ridge over the state from Sunday. From midweek, a cold front clipping the south will push a weak southerly change over southern coastal waters.
