Nintendo Switch Online Trailer Gets Reuploaded And Re-Disliked By Fans
The trailer for Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo's online subscription service for Switch online functionality, has been reuploaded to YouTube, and it has once again been met by an overwhelming number of viewer dislikes. It's actually not even the first time the Nintendo Switch Online trailer has been reuploaded, and it's possible that this latest attempt might not be Nintendo's last YouTube embarrassment.
Nintendo's online services have always been under scrutiny for not being with the times, but Nintendo Switch Online was the straw that broke the camel's back for many for a variety of reasons. The online connectivity it provides isn't as stable as the servers PlayStation and Xbox uses for their paid online services, and the voice chat function featured on the mobile app doesn't work for all games. The service also includes a cloud backup for save files, but most Switch games don't support the feature. Additionally, the Nintendo Switch virtual console service for NES and SNES games has had a slow drip-feed ever since its launch, with most of the games on offer not being what players are asking for, making many question if Nintendo still doesn't doesn't "get" online services and how they should function.
On April 8, Nintendo uploaded a slightly updated version of its overview trailer for Nintendo Switch Online, with clips of more recent titles such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons. At publication time, the trailer has 5.7k likes to 30k dislikes, and the top comments are filled with fans jabbing at the service and this course of action.
Of course, the exact reason for this reupload can't be known. However, many theorize that this is an attempt to refresh the likes and dislikes from the original launch trailer of Nintendo Switch Online to warp less savvy viewers' perception of the service. If that's the case, then clearly it hasn't been effective given the amount of dislikes the newest trailer has. Another possibility is that this is simply another advertisement of the service without taking into consideration the previous likes and dislikes of past trailers, which is not much better of an approach given that it's not taking community opinion into account
But as things currently stand, this action does give off the appearance that this is just a way to try to promote the quality of the service to its customers. If that is the case, it's both amusing and slightly frustrating that Nintendo will continually reupload its trailer for a service that is still under scrutiny rather than just meaningfully improve said service. As it stands, the current perception of Nintendo Switch Online is and will likely continue to be negative until Nintendo makes it worth customers' while.
