Father ‘killed 2-month-old daughter by shoving baby wipe into her mouth’
The father of a two-month-old girl allegedly choked and killed her by stuffing a baby wipe in her mouth. Christopher Ledoux, 38, was indicted on Thursday in the infant’s death from just before Thanksgiving last year.
Firefighters responded to a call for a girl who could not breathe at a home in Columbus, Ohio, just before 4am, WBNS reported at the time. Neighbors heard first responders performing CPR but the infant, Christina Ledoux, was later pronounced dead at a Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Police investigated the death as a homicide but few details have been available. The girl died after choking on a baby wipe, according to an autopsy report.
Christopher Ledoux was indicted on one count of reckless homicide and is being held at the Fairfield County Jail. He had a prior felony drug possession conviction from 2012 ‘that could affect court appearances,’ according to Law & Crime, which obtained the indictment.
In Ohio, reckless homicide is considered a third degree felony. The maximum sentence for third degree felonies in the state is five years in prison.
A prosecutor recommended a $50,000 cash or surety bond or a $5,000 bond plus $25,000 as well as personal recognizance conditions. The stringent bail conditions were attributed to Christopher Ledoux’s alleged violent crime, that he was charged with a ‘victim oriented offense,’ and his past addiction history.
He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
