Chloe Bennet Video Reveals Her Powerpuff Girls Live-Action Blossom Look
Chloe Bennet revealed her new Blossom look for The Powerpuff Girls series coming to the CW. The network recently ordered a pilot for a live-action version of the animated Cartoon Network series that followed three kindergarten-aged girls with superpowers: Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. Earlier this month, the three main stars of CW's potential series were officially announced. Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault will take on the three super-powered sisters' roles — Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, respectively.
The CW's live-action Powerpuff Girls project will follow its titular heroes two decades after the events of Cartoon Network's animated series that ran from 1998 to 2005. The original series regularly saw the superhero sisters defend Townsville from big baddies such as Mojo Jojo. Yet, the three sisters do not have any memory of fighting crime as children until a potential threat comes along that compels them to consider reuniting to save the world from evil once again. Bennet's Blossom, who was once a precocious and courageous child, must now deal with repressed trauma from her childhood that causes feelings of anxiety and seclusion.
Now, Bennet is revealing her new look as she prepares for the role of Blossom. On her Instagram, the actress shared a short video showing off her new hair color, dyed a shade of red to match Blossom's iconic look. In the caption, Bennet said she is "a female, Asian, red-headed, superhero (again)" and told her followers to "go ahead and normalize being anything you want." Check out Bennet's Blossom look below:
Bennet is perhaps best known for portraying Daisy 'Skye' Johnson, also known as Quake, on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, in which her Powerpuff co-star Dove Cameron also stars as Ruby Hale. Yana Perrault, a Broadway actress, and singer will round out the cast as Buttercup. The three will star in the second Powerpuff Girls reboot after the animated continuation in 2016.
Adapting Powerpuff Girls from a children's cartoon to a live-action series that appeals to adults will prove to a challenge, though the CW has done it before with Riverdale's take on the characters from Archie Comics. While the series enjoys relatively strong viewership, it is regularly mocked and scorned for its cringe-worthy plot and dialogue. Diablo Cody, who has been tapped to write the Powerpuff pilot script, won an Academy Award for Juno's screenplay in 2007 but has since floundered with a few misfires. Do not be surprised if The Powerpuff Girls follows in the infamous footstep of Riverdale.
