There are many couples on 90 Day Fiancé season 8 that fans love to drag, and Andrew Kenton and Amira Lollysa are one of them. Andrew and Amira seem horribly mismatched, and a lot of viewers don’t like the way that Andrew treats Amira. So, when fans unearthed a feminist spoken word poem penned by Andrew, the Internet had a field day. While his heart might have been in the right place, there’s no denying that his poem is full of cringe-inducing lines.
Though Amira seems to love Andrew, fans are critical of him because of what he has put his fiancé through. Their K1 visa time clock started ticking when the world was shutting down due to COVID-19, and the couple scrambled to find a way to get Amira to the United States before the 90 days were up. Andrew came up with an ill-advised plan to circumvent travel restrictions, which backfired horribly. Amira was trapped in a Mexican detention center for several days and fans dragged the daycare dude Andrew for continuing his quarantine vacation in Mexico anyway. When his “feminist” poem was uncovered, fans found his woman-forward thinking hypocritical, as they considered him insensitive towards his own female partner.
Andrew addresses the poem “to all my brethren,” and this reeks of pretentiousness. He could have chosen to begin the poem without such an old-fashioned opener, but no. Clearly, every man needs to hear his words. Fans compare Andrew to The Simpsons’ Comic Book Guy, who might be inclined to describe the opener in very negative terms.
“I firmly believe in equality and I say this without any frivolity,” he remarks a few lines down. He couldn't find a better way to underscore the importance of equality than with an objectively funny word like “frivolity?” It feels like he undermines how firmly he believes in equality, due to the inherent silliness of his next words.
Fans were shocked recently when Amira received a mean message from Andrew’s mom, but perhaps that instinct to insult is genetic. Andrew says “femina*i was a term famously used by Rush Limbaugh, that fat, repulsive, right wing talking head.” No matter how one feels about the political leanings that the late Limbaugh had, there are better (and more appropriate ways) to insult someone. Going after their appearance is low.
Towards the end of the poem, as per Sacramento Poetry Center, Andrew claims, “as a man, I can never really understand the true extent of what women may experience.” This was probably how he should have started the poem in the first place. Prefacing the rest of the poem with the fact that he doesn’t fully know what he’s talking about would have been a smart move. It would have gone far in terms of making the rest of his lines less cringeworthy.
Fans have joked about Andrew’s wild travel plans for Amira, but maybe it’s because he has a hard time understanding what the real issues are. In the poem, he says, “in some ways I’m grateful (to not be a woman) because giving birth sounds intense," which is a weird takeaway. After all, that line is in a poem where he talks about socially-ingrained inequality toward women. He brings up the glass ceiling, rape, and unequal representation, but it’s childbirth that’s the worst to him.
90 Day Fiancé fans have serious doubts about whether Andrew and Amira will stay together. However, (SPOILER ALERT) Andrew revealed a secret, which was that they lived together for several months. Many fans still think they don’t have what it takes to make it long-term. They haven't changed their opinions after analyzing his awkward and embarrassing poem.
