Fans of Black Panther are looking forward to the Disney+ series set in Wakanda. Here are some characters from the comics they hope to see appear.
The general expectation from the Wakanda-based TV series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is to see a return of the characters from Black Panther among other, newer characters. Within the new faces likely to be introduced, fans are certain they will see some characters from the comics.
The MCU can choose to introduce some of these great characters as they are in the comics or do its own thing and develop them according to the established style of its universe.
This isn’t common knowledge for mainstream fans, but Storm is a long-time love interest for T’Challa in the comics. Although their love story won’t play out in the MCU, Storm can easily be integrated into this universe through her connection to the Black Panther series.
With the Wakanda series having an ensemble cast, Storm’s inclusion would make sense allowing a debut of mutants on a smaller scale and then building the angle up gradually. It would also be a good nod toward the comics for Storm to appear this way.
Zawavari is a Wakandan magic-user who tested T’Challa’s mettle as the new Black Panther. He was more of a recluse due to the Wakandans generally preferring technology to magic, but was sought once there were no other options.
This character would be great for the series because he brings a contrast to the technological aspect of Wakanda. Moreover, it would be fascinating to explore his powers.
Many feel that one of the ways Black Panther II can evolve is by putting more focus on the Dora Milaje. This can occur in the Wakanda series through the Midnight Angels, who were the duo of Aneka and Ayo. While the latter has been adapted in the MCU already, the general concept of the Midnight Angels has not.
With the pair being lovers, they would also bring LGBTQ+ representation to the screen, along with giving the Wakanda series nuanced, vigilante characters.
Achebe is comparable to the Joker from DC Comics. He’s an anarchist who has an obsession with the Black Panther, making him a threat to Wakanda in general.
This character would bring an eviler side to the show. He would be an excellent villain that the people of Wakanda would need to defeat by putting on a united front.
Director Ryan Coogler wanted Kraven to be in the first Black Panther movie before plans changed. He would be a memorable addition to the show with his no-nonsense mentality and hunter mindset. Despite traditionally being a Spider-Man villain, it aligns with his character to arrive in a setting like Wakanda.
Black Panther #519 had shown Kraven looking to fight the titular character. A good story could see the Wakandans take the fight to Kraven and turn the tables on him.
The White Wolf is the title for Hunter, the adoptive brother of T’Challa who was in charge of the Wakandan secret police.
Known as the Hatut Zeraze, this secret police can be shown in the Wakanda TV series, with the White Wolf’s exploits highlighted in detail. The show can truly bring to life the title that was given to Bucky Barnes, at one time, but that does not seem to be a storyline that will be carried out for him.
A wise older character would add a level of subtlety to the Wakanda TV series and the role can be filled by S'Yan, the uncle of T’Challa. Black Panther changed the superhero film landscape, but it didn’t map out T’Challa’s family in greater detail, which the TV show can do instead.
S’Yan can be shown as the one who takes on the burden of the throne in T’Challa’s absence and can be one of the characters representing the Golden Tribe in the series. The show could even take a creative turn by adapting him as a villain in this continuity.
It would be a cool change from the norm to present an outsider into the series. Queen Divine Justice was a Jabari tribe princess who grew up in Chicago and was unaware of her status until being summoned to Wakanda.
Queen Divine Justice would help the audience get a deeper look into the country and would add an interesting perspective to the show.
Namor would have given Black Panther a true fight if it were possible to have seen the two lock horns in the MCU. He can still contribute meaningfully if his status as the ruler of Atlantis is incorporated in the show.
It would make for a fascinating watch to have a series that pits two powerhouse countries against one another. Namor can take up the role of the main antagonist who seeks to bring Wakanda down to establish the domination of Atlantis.
T’Challa’s love interest Nakia received a good amount of screentime in Black Panther, but the longest love interest has actually been Monica Lynne. While their love story won’t be adapted in the MCU, Monica can be shown on her own.
Since comic book fans are well aware of her, Monica’s appearance will bring in an air of familiarity and stir interest to see what role she’ll be serving here. She can even be introduced as T’Challa’s former romance and possibly even interact with Nakia.
