There are many times and reasons when an Instagram user might want to change their password and the process is fairly easy to do through the account settings. Even when a password has been completely forgotten, there is an option to reset it, as long as either the username, email address or phone number hasn’t also been forgotten. Here's a quick explanation on how to change or reset an Instagram password.
Instagram, like many online services, uses passwords to protect accounts. However, passwords can only offer so much protection. Even when users adopt all of the recommendation password measures, there are still times when services are breached or accidentally reveal user information. In nearly all of these instances, changing a password is not only recommended, but a very important step to take.
Instagram users that already know their password can very easily and quickly change it at any time by accessing the account's settings menu, either through the web browser version of Instagram or the smartphone app. To change the password through the app, tap on the profile picture in the bottom right corner and then on the menu icon in the top right. Once done, tap on Settings, then on Security and finally on Password. At which point, the Instagram user will need to enter their current password to confirm ownership of the account before they will be able to enter the new one. To complete the password change, simply tap the Save option in the top right corner.
There will be times when the only option to change a password is to reset it. This will most often be the case when an Instagram user cannot actually remember the password to begin with. However, this is also fairly easy to do and the “forgot password?” option is available on the main Instagram sign-in page. Alternatively, users can also click here to jump straight to the reset page. Once there, the user will need to input either the email address, phone number or the username associated with the Instagram account and the service will then send them a login link which they can use to change the password and access the account once again.
Whether changing the password from within the account settings or following a reset, it is important to ensure the new password is a strong one. After all, the weaker the password is, the sooner it will likely need to be changed or reset once again. This applies whether it is Instagram or any other online service that primarily relies on a password for account protection.
