Hoteliers call on government to vaccinate tourism workers
The Cyprus Hotel Managers Association (Pasydixe) has called on the government to implement a number of measures to help hoteliers reopen for the upcoming summer season.
In an announcement released on Thursday, Pasydixe said that, if properly aided, the tourism industry can act as an important aid for the Cypriot economy after a difficult year.
In particular, the association urged the government to prioritise vaccinations for people working in the tourism industry.
It also suggested that people working in the industry who refuse to be vaccinated should undergo compulsory weekly rapid tests.
The announcement called on the government to accept rapid tests from travellers arriving in Cyprus from countries classified in orange and red categories, and to test those arriving from countries belonging to the green category on arrival at Larnaca and Paphos airports.
At the same time, Pasydixe’s announcement praised the government for their decision to divide countries into three separate categories, “a decision that was welcomed by the tourism industry as well as by travellers”.
Finally, the association said it hoped for a big advertising campaign directed at important tourist markets promoting Cyprus’ safety and value for money.
