Report: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on standby as potential venue for Euros
According to a report in The Daily Mirror, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is one of the venues that is set to host Euro 2020 matches should the whole of the tournament be staged in England.
As things stand, the Euros are scheduled to be staged in 12 countries across Europe, with seven matches at Wembley, including all three of England’s group stage matches, a round of 16 clash, both semifinals and the final.
However, it is said that there are doubts over the viability of the plan due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
England are better placed than most host countries due to the UK’s prompt vaccine roll out and Prime Minister Boris Johnson has offered to host the entire tournament in the country.
UEFA are said be ready to announce their final decision next month.
The report claims that the latter stages of the tournament could see a capacity crowd according to the UK government’s roadmap, with restrictions set to be lifted from June 21.
If the tournament is to be moved to England, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is one of nine other venues aside from Wembley being lined up to host matches, with the others being Old Trafford, Villa Park, St James’ Park, the Etihad, the Stadium of Light, Anfield, the London Stadium, and the Emirates.
