AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Specs & Features: What You Need To Know
AMD just unveiled its latest graphics card, the Radeon RX 6700 XT. Only a few short months ago, Nvidia announced its next generation of graphics cards. Since then, anticipation has been high for the upcoming addition.
There's been a lot of talk around graphics cards lately, and unfortunately, it hasn't all been good news. While announcements for new PC components are always exciting, those announcements now come with a huge caveat. Between scalpers, crypto miners, and people just wanting to upgrade their aging gaming PCs, inventory for graphics cards has been abysmal for a while. It remains to be seen if AMD can keep up with the likely high demand it'll have for the Radeon RX 6700 XT, but assuming someone can actually get their hands on it, they're going to be in for a real treat.
The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT is being marketed as a product that'll "redefine 1440p resolution gaming," and looking at the spec sheet, it certainly seems capable of doing that. AMD built the Radeon RX 6700 XT using the 7nm process and AMD's RDNA 2 gaming architecture. With these things combined, AMD promises an "optimal combination of performance and power efficiency." There's a total of 40 compute units, 12GB of GDDR6 memory, and an infinity cache of 96MB that allows for up to 2.5x more bandwidth compared to traditional architectures.
Ray-tracing has become a highlight feature in PC gaming lately, and as expected, the Radeon RX 6700 XT fully supports it — specifically, the DirectX Raytracing (DXR) standard. This also works in conjunction with AMD FidelityFX, which is an open-source program that allows for even greater visuals across the 40+ games that currently support it. Along with incredible graphics, AMD is also promising excellent performance. Part of this is thanks to the AMD Radeon Anti-Lag feature which helps decrease input-to-display response times. In other words, all titles should be every bit as fast and responsive as possible. Thanks to the Radeon RX 6700 XT's compatibility with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, gamers get the best of both worlds as the standards support 4K @ 120Hz and 8K @ 60Hz.
Tying all of this together is the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT's price. AMD is targeting an MSRP of just $479, which is mighty impressive considering everything the RX 6700 XT brings to the table. As mentioned above, however, it's now a game of wait and see as to whether or not AMD will be able to keep up with organic demand while simultaneously combatting scalpers. It's something Nvidia has struggled with for months for its most recent graphics card, so all eyes are now on AMD to see how it'll handle the current market situation.
