My suicidal son attacks me when he’s drunk – I don’t know where to turn
DEAR DEIDRE: MY gorgeous little boy has turned into a troubled, violent young man. He is 23 and I am his 55-year-old dad.
We live together and he often takes out his frustrations on me.
In the past year I’ve had to call the police twice because I’ve been scared he would seriously injure one of us.
He recently attacked me because I challenged his drinking. He gave me a black eye and my body was covered in bruises.
My son is out of work and drinks heavily. I can’t hold down a relationship because any woman gets scared of being around him.
Six months ago he called me from the nearby coast, threatening to take his life by jumping off a cliff. I’ve asked for help but the authorities say it has to be my son’s choice to get help.
I’m so down and depressed. I don’t know where to turn. We need help.
