Scarlet Witch Repeating Thanos' Time Trick On Vision Reveals Her Control
Scarlet Witch pulls a Thanos and reverses time in WandaVision episode 2, showing just how great her power is and hinting towards her control over it (for now). Although very much still linked to the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision marks the beginning of MCU Phase 4, and is Marvel’s first Disney+ show. WandaVision’s first two episodes throw viewers headfirst into the world of Westview, a sitcom-parodying alt-reality that hides a lot of mysteries.
Alongside the riffs on classic shows such as I Love Lucy and Bewitched, WandaVision teases various aspects as to what’s really going on. While it seems as though S.W.O.R.D. is keeping tabs on things from the outside, and characters like Agnes may have something to hide on the inside, the suggestion so far is that it’s Scarlet Witch herself who has somehow created WandaVision’s world, albeit with several lingering questions as to how exactly she might've done it.
Whether Westview is the work of Wanda or some other nefarious being (or even a little of both), WandaVision does hint at her control - thanks to a parallel with Thanos. At the end of episode 2, when Wanda and Vision find a mysterious beekeeper (who seemingly works for S.W.O.R.D.) coming through a manhole cover, the former takes matters into her own hands. With a simple declaration of “no,” she rewinds time, going back to the moment of the pregnancy reveal, and on this occasion things play out differently. This suggests she is in charge of what’s happening around her, and Scarlet Witch may have learned this trick from Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, where he used the Time Stone to reverse time in order to kill Vision and obtain the Mind Stone from his head.
Interestingly, in both cases it is not only time being manipulated, but Vision too, albeit for very different reasons. Thanos reverses time in order to kill Vision; Scarlet Witch rewinds time in order to protect him (and herself). That itself is something of an illusion though: what Wanda is really doing is maintaining the deceit, since Vision presumably is not truly back alive but instead a construct of her reality, and the beekeeper risked disturbing that. Both Scarlet Witch and Thanos, then, play with time in order to impose their will upon Vision; while Wanda isn’t a villain like the Mad Titan (yet, at least), the implications are at least a little disturbing.
There are further hints at how WandaVision will explore this, such as the mention of Vision's "indestructible head" in episode 1, which harks back to the moment when his head was anything but indestructible. It remains to be seen how Vision is alive, but it's clear that his death is a major driving force of Scarlet Witch's actions, with Wanda ready to do whatever it takes to keep him around now that she has him back. For now, that's saying "no" and reversing time, but she may go to even greater lengths to hold on to the facade in future WandaVision episodes.
