Wolverine admits he needs some help from his popular claw-wielding family in the latest issue of his ongoing series for Marvel Comics.
Warning! Spoilers for Wolverine #8 below.
Jonathan Hickman's X-Men reboot has been wildly successful, as the new world he created for mutants on Krakoa has been immensely interesting and rarely boring. But, since the changes, Wolverine has shared very few moments with his family... until now. In the latest issue of Wolverine, the longtime X-Man calls upon his family to help him against one of his deadliest villains.
Wolverine's first clone was Laura Kinney, aka X-23. The hero would later become the new Wolverine after his death and has been missing for a large chunk of the new X-Men reboot after entering the Vault. Laura was cloned and one of her copies was the Gabby aka the Honey Badger (later renamed Scout) who's been sparingly used in the reboot. The younger clone often followed Laura in her adventures as a sidekick. Meanwhile, Wolverine's son Daken has been a mainstay in the comics since debuting in Wolverine: Origins, and is currently part of the X-Factor team.
In Wolverine #8 by Ben Percy, Adam Kubert, and Viktor Bogdanovic, Omega Red is ambushed on Krakoa. However, before reaching the original Wolverine, he comes face-to-face with Gabby and gets tied up in a trap. Gabby gets some swings at Omega Red with her claws and once she appears to be in trouble, Daken appears and the pair take him on. Wolverine soon emerges and says he would have handled the villain himself, but that his children wanted to make it a "family affair."
After stopping Omega Red in his tracks, Wolverine interrogates him about his suspicions he worked with Dracula and the Vampire Nation in capturing him for bloodletting. Omega Red ensures him that whatever he saw isn't true and that he's not the one who would hurt mutants (before ironically choking him). He tells Wolverine not to make "enemies out of friends," and walks away. Logan reminds the family that Omega Red isn't the only one "with dark allies. You ain't the only one ready to spill some blood," referring to his family.
While Omega Red denies capturing Wolverine and the ambush ultimately doesn't yield any new information, seeing the Wolverine-Family back in action is exciting - even if Laura is still M.I.A. Gabby is definitely a character that deserves a bigger role than the one she currently has, so to see her reappear in such an awesome scene is refreshing. Hopefully, when Laura returns from the Vault the entire family can get together and go on some adventures together. It's been far too long.
