Suspect arrested in 2 Marin armed robberies
Investigators have arrested a Sonoma County man in connection with two armed robberies in Marin.
The first happened at about 3:45 a.m. Dec. 19 at the Shell gas station on South Novato Boulevard in Novato. The robber showed the clerk a gun in his waistband and made off with cigarette cartons, police said.
About an hour later, the same robber appeared at the Circle K gas station on Francisco Boulevard in San Rafael, police said. He pulled a gun from his waistband and stole cigarettes and cash from the market.
Investigators gathered surveillance images and other leads and identified the suspect as Elliott Francis Malone. Novato police and Sonoma County investigators obtained a search warrant for him and his vehicle, executed it Wednesday and found evidence allegedly tying him to the crimes.
Malone, who turned 30 the day after the robberies, remained in custody Thursday at the Marin County Jail. The booking log lists him as a Petaluma resident.
Malone is on probation for prior crimes in Sonoma County, the Novato Police department said.
