First-time owners of the Google Nest Mini or Max will likely know that they are useful but might not know how to set them up via the app and voice.
Smart speakers like the Google Nest Mini and Max can make life much easier and will likely be received by many as gifts this holiday season. For those just getting started setting up a smart home, the Nest Mini or Max is a great place to start. First-time owners of the Google Nest Mini or Max will likely know that they are useful devices but might not know how to set them up, so here is how to set up a Nest Mini or Max.
Smart speakers are voice-activated devices that utilize a virtual assistant to help with everyday tasks. They can typically help with things like making notes, playing podcasts, and controlling other smart home devices. For example, the Google Nest Mini and Max can adjust a thermostat or turn on a light with a voice command. Smart speakers are small, can be placed anywhere around the home, and can serve as a central source of information.
Upon unboxing Google's Nest Mini or Max, find a good location where it will be used the most, like the kitchen or living room. Plug the device into the nearest outlet, connect a smartphone or tablet to the Wi-Fi network and, download the Google Home app. Now, log in to your Google account or create a new account; make sure the iOS or Android device works with a Wi-Fi network and has the Bluetooth turned on. After logging into the account, tap the plus sign icon located in the upper lefthand corner of the app, and select 'Set up device.'
From there, the Google Home app will scan for a new device, once it is found, tap on the device name and tap next. If the setup was successful, the Nest Mini or Max will play a sound. If it does, click yes in the app and then select the location of the device, which helps to keep multiple devices organized. Your home network should now appear in the app. Select it, and tap next. Lastly, turn on Voice Match so Google Assistant can recognize voices and differentiate between other users. There is a short walkthrough of how to best utilize the Nest Mini or Max and it will show how to turn the mic off, how to adjust the volume, and how to tap the top to play or pause.
If the speaker fails to appear in the app, restart the speaker by unplugging it for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in. Users can also restart the home app if the speaker doesn’t appear in the app. This is done by closing the Home app by swiping up from the bottom, hold, then letting go and swiping up on the app. If the app freezes during the setup process or otherwise won’t finish, restart the smart speaker by unplugging it, wait for 10 seconds, and plug it back in again. This will allow users to start the setup process again.
Once the setup process is complete, the Nest Mini or Max is ready to use. Settings can be changed at any time after setup is complete. Users can now play music, listen to podcasts, or even make phone calls. The Google Assistant can help you remember things, cook, stay in touch with others, and act as a remote control for the television. Setting up a Nest Mini or Max is the first step in delving into the world of smart homes.
