Paris Geller is one of the most honest characters on Gilmore Girls. She's so authentic that she doesn't know how to be anyone else but herself. She doesn't tell white lies like Rory and Lorelai and she certainly doesn't allow anyone to treat her any less than how she deserves to be treated. Paris is aggressive but is the unsung hero of the series.
Underneath her harsh words and hostility is an open and loving young woman who deserves to be loved and cherished. And thanks to her raw truthfulness, Paris has said things from time to time that were exactly what viewers were thinking (and then some). Whether they were quotes about life or situational moments, Paris told it like it was.
For years, fans knew Paris was anything but patient by how she treated her fellow classmates and peers. When there was something Paris needed, she expected it to be done immediately. It was refreshing seeing a young woman so in-tune with herself and aware of her needs. It would have been frustrating for viewers if Paris denied being this demanding commander. Instead, she embraced it and let people know her needs when the situation seemed fit.
To be fair to the women who asked Paris if it was raining, asking someone an obvious question is the simplest of small talk. Paris, however, is not a fan of trivial chit-chat. She believes there are such things as dumb questions and she doesn't appreciate them.
Granted, Paris' response was far harsher than expected but, when you see someone sopping wet after coming in from outside, it's very clear that it was raining.
As one of the main characters in Gilmore Girls, Rory is incredibly flawed and beloved all the same. She's always been a mature young woman who was wise beyond her years. She was never into the same things that other kids her age were into, and the same can be said for Paris.
However, when Paris and Rory were finally away at Yale, it was time for the two women to let loose and do what the other kids did. But after Rory refused to go out with Paris, she let Rory know what viewers were also thinking: Rory was an 18-year-old acting like a grandparent. Rory needed Paris' blunt honesty to get out of her comfort zone.
In the sixth season, Rory finds out that Logan slept with his sister's friends when they were on a break. Sadly, Rory didn't even realize they weren't together; she assumed they were just taking some time to think about their relationship.
When Rory discovered the hard truth, she broke things off with Logan and headed to Paris' apartment where she too was facing a breakup from Doyle. Together, the two women swore off men and ate "lots of Chinese food." No men and takeout food is the recipe to a perfects girls' night together.
As brilliant and beautiful as Paris is, sometimes she has low self-confidence. The only person Paris seems to confess her insecurities to is Rory. Rory doesn't always love Paris, but she does respect her and doesn't judge her meltdowns.
In A Year in the Life, Rory and Paris were asked to speak at Chilton. Seeing those old hallways and Tristan hitting on another woman brought back a lot of memories for Paris. She even admitted that she was carrying around an empty briefcase because it made her look more important. Hilariously, Paris isn't the only person in history who has done something like this, which made her all the more relatable.
When Rory and Paris get into a disagreement, things between the two ladies get nasty at Chilton. Headmaster Charleston called the two women into his office and asked them if they were fighting over another boy. Paris found the remark insulting and sexist. Just because two women were arguing does not mean they were arguing over a boy. The idea was incredibly dated and offensive, especially to two bright women like Paris and Rory. By Paris saying this, she was sticking up for women everywhere.
At first, Paris and Rory were against the idea of going down to Florida for spring break. They were going to hang back at Yale and continue their work. But after the rain became too much to bear, they both decided to fit in and go to Florida with the rest of their classmates.
Once they were there, Paris and Rory realized they didn't know how to relax and have fun. Their favorite night of the trip was staying in their motel room watching TV. As viewers, we wanted to see the two women do things they wouldn't normally do back at Yale. It was time to blow off some steam. Fans were happy for the two when Paris finally decided to do spring break right.
As a future journalist, Rory is great with words, but when it comes to arguing, no one does it better than Paris. She hardly takes a breath in between insults, which is what makes her so thorough with her remarks.
In one scene, Logan stopped by Paris' apartment to speak to Rory after their argument, but Paris took control. It was girls' night and she wasn't about to let Logan step foot in her apartment with a heartbroken Rory on her couch. Viewers have always been torn on who Rory should be with, but Paris knew from the beginning that Logan wasn't "the one."
Paris hit the nail on the head with this quote. She and Rory were strong, well-educated women who were on their way to doing extraordinary things in the world. When small things like boys or needless drama got in their way, Paris said the obvious: they were better than this. They have strong women like Emma Goldman and Hilary Clinton leading the way; as soon-to-be Yale graduates, they couldn't let those women down with petty nonsense.
Paris has always been honest, but it wasn't until she was denied from Harvard that her honesty took a different level. Her poor meltdown on TV was embarrassing enough to make Paris take some time off from school for a bit, but she wasn't wrong. There was no one more deserving of a spot at Harvard than Paris. There isn't a thing she said during her rant that a viewer wasn't thinking.
