The Lakers lost their opening game of the 2020-21 regular season, but the real takeaway was what the team’s performance indicated about their approach to the regular season. On the latest episode of “I Love Basketball”, your hosts Anthony Irwin and Sabreena Merchant discuss what to expect from this year’s team in terms of their regular-season output.
Much like last season, Frank Vogel is going to use the regular season to experiment, and while the Lakers should have enough talent on most nights to win anyway, there are certain teams that can beat the Lakers if they have a better game plan. Anthony and Sabreena discuss where the Lakers were deficient in their strategy, as well as what Vogel was hoping to achieve with his curious decision-making.
They then move on to the Lakers’ next game against Dallas and what to expect from the group — LeBron James, in particular — against Luke Doncic and the Mavericks. (Note: this was recorded before Dallas lost Wednesday). They finish the show by sharing some of their favorite Lakers Christmas Day memories, previewing the rest of this year’s Christmas slate, and giving some thoughts on the giant cluster of a situation currently transpiring with James Harden, the Houston Rockets, and COVID-19.
